Organic Tapestry Weaving Workshop
Learn the basics to create a beautiful floral woven tapestry on a small loom.
You will learn how to create a “professional” bottom selvage using plain weave, full hitch knots and sumac stitch. From there you will learn some tips on weaving a tapestry without following all the “rules” of traditional weaving. Definitions and stitch diagrams will be provided. A kit will be available for purchase at the workshop ($25, see photo). All materials will be provided. Just bring a pair of scissors. Some weaving experience is helpful, but not necessary.

Everything you need to complete this project is included.
Learn to paper piece with organic edges while constructing this peony flower.
Uses traditional English paper piecing with a twist.

Ready to explore new creative possibilities? Whether you're an experienced maker or just looking to try something different, join us to learn a unique method for collage, stitching and mark-making. Using mostly fabrics and some papers you will create your own fabric for stitching, painting and drawing.
In this hands-on class, you'll learn a unique approach to creating layered mixed media artwork by combining collage, embroidery, free-motion machine stitching, mark-making, and printing your own photographs. You'll transform everyday fabrics and papers into richly textured one-of-a-kind artistic creations. Most importantly, you'll have the freedom to play, explore, and discover your own creative voice while having fun with fellow artists.
You'll have the option to continue working on your projects between classes, but there's no homework required—just come ready to create at your own pace.
Discover how simple materials can become extraordinary works of art!
(2-4 days - Class description for 4 day option)
Class 1: Bring some fabric scraps that you love or some memorabilia with a theme. We will layer and turn them into your first piece of fabric using a wet appliqué method developed by English artist Cas Holmes.
Class 2: Come prepared with up to 3 of your own photographs that you would like to work with. We will be manipulating this into a final version for printing. We will also be stitching your work from last week.
Class 3: You will receive your photographs printed on fabric to make your next creation. Bring fabric and memorabilia relating to your photo to work with.
Class 4: More stitching and mark making. We will talk about ways to finish and display your amazing creations!
I will have a starter kit of various fabrics for each student and a small stash of fabrics and papers to choose from at each class. Bringing fabric scraps from home or paper bits that have memories for you will give your work more meaning. These can be paper or fabric from a trip you took, a favorite shirt that you can’t wear any longer, grandma’s trims you found in the attic, etc… They just need to be porous. Cotton and paper does work best but we can make other woven fabrics work.
